The APPL SEED Reference Collection

The Ancient People and Plants Laboratory (APPL) is also home to a comparative collection of modern seeds that is used to aid researchers in the identification of archaeological seeds. Although the APPL Seeds, Ecosystems, and Environments Database (SEED) is predominantly made up of plants from the Andean region of South America,  it also contains accessions from other areas of the world.

Currently, all seed collections housed in the Ancient People and Plants Laboratory are in the process of being photographed. We are also building a searchable, digital seed database with high-resolution photographs that will be available for use by researchers, students, and the general public. Check back for updates!
